YouTube plans to incorporate gen AI in a big way for creators & viewers.
During its Made on YouTube event, the company announced a bunch of generative AI-based improvements for video and content creators. In the official recap, YouTube highlighted features such as:
- Dream Screen—Allowing creators to “dream up” AI-generated video and image backgrounds to add to their Shorts based on text prompts.
- AI Insights—To help spark the next video idea and suggestions based on audience analysis.
- Aloud—Allowing viewers to use AI to dub a video into multiple languages (auto-dubbed), enabling creators to reach more audiences.
- Assistive Search—Allowing creators to select the right soundtrack for their videos automatically.
With this host of improvements, YouTube takes the capabilities of generative AI one step further and makes its content even more mass-consumable.
Embedding such generative features within the Creator Studio helps creators leverage the capabilities of generative AI without leaving the platform.
Dream Screen will be broadly launched in 2024 with the testing beginning before the end of 2023. Initially, creators will be limited to typing text prompts to generate new clips but later on, the company said, creators could also remix and edit previous content.
AI Insights is particularly useful in a market of video content creators, especially because it can use data from YouTube as well as Google, allowing creators to bank on the collective intelligence of the platforms to suggest new topics based on what users like and are watching.
The Aloud feature will work just like the video quality selector on the player and has been made possible with the help of the Aloud team that YouTube brought earlier this year.
These features will be available to all YouTube creators.
We want to make it easier for everyone to feel like they can create, and we believe generative AI will make that possible. AI will enable people to push the boundaries of creative expression by making the difficult things simple.
